How to remove toxic backlinks from Google

    1. Audit your backlinks. Use Google Search Console → Links report, or tools like Ahrefs, SEMrush or Moz to identify spammy, low-quality or paid links pointing at your site.
    2. Try outreach first. Where possible, contact the site owner and politely request removal. Keep evidence of your attempts.
    3. Build your list. Paste the remaining toxic URLs or whole domains into the box above. Use domain:example.com to disavow every URL on that domain (recommended for spam networks).
    4. Download disavow.txt. Click the button — the file is formatted exactly to Google's specification.
    5. Submit it. Go to Google's Disavow Links Tool, select your property and upload the file.
    6. Wait. Google typically reprocesses disavowed links within a few weeks. Monitor rankings and impressions in Search Console.

    When should you disavow links?

Only disavow links that are clearly manipulative — paid link networks, comment spam, hacked-site footers, scraper sites or negative SEO attacks. Google's algorithms ignore most low-quality links automatically, so a disavow file is a last resort. Disavowing legitimate links can hurt your rankings.

    Best practices

    • Prefer domain: entries for entire spam domains rather than listing every URL.
    • Keep the file under 100,000 lines and 2 MB (Google's limits).
    • Re-upload an updated file whenever you find new toxic links — each upload replaces the previous one.
    • Pair this with quality link-building so good links outweigh anything you can't disavow.

This tool runs entirely in your browser. Your list is never sent to a server.
